The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has observed that although many young Ghanaians are ready to join the workforce after completing their education, limited job opportunities remain a major obstacle.

He made this known during the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Steering and Technical Committees by the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), to spearhead the implementation of the government’s new Work Abroad Programme.

The initiative, which forms part of the government’s broader employment strategy, seeks to create international job avenues for Ghanaian youth who are willing and ready to explore work opportunities outside the country.

Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that the programme specifically targets ambitious young people prepared to travel and take up employment.

According to him, the programme is a response to the growing unemployment rate among graduates and school leavers, many of whom struggle to transition from education to employment.

The Minister described the collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency as crucial, given its strategic position and influence over the youth population.

He stressed that the committees are now fully constituted and mandated to begin work on rolling out the programme.
