The Vice President of Ghana Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commenced a three-week medical leave beginning April 7, 2025, based on her doctor’s advice to prioritize her health and recovery.

The Vice President’s leave follows recent health challenges that necessitated specialized treatment abroad after receiving initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.

Providing an update on her condition, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, assured the public during a community engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is recovering steadily and is expected to return to her duties soon.

He expressed appreciation for the overwhelming prayers and support from citizens at home and abroad, attributing them to her ongoing recovery.

Addressing rumors, Ablakwa dismissed what he described as “vicious and unGhanaian propaganda,” calling instead for a focus on the Vice President’s strength, accomplishments, and unwavering dedication to public service.

He further underscored her importance as a role model, particularly for young girls and women aspiring to leadership.
