Accra Hearts of Oak have successfully tied down their highly-rated goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, with a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper’s impressive performances for both Hearts of Oak and the Ghana national team had reportedly attracted significant interest from Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and three other clubs in France. However, Asare has opted to commit his future to the Phobians, signing a new long-term deal.

Asare’s stock has risen dramatically following his standout displays, particularly for the Black Stars. He made a memorable debut in Ghana’s 5-0 victory over Chad and followed it up with another clean sheet in the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar. His commanding presence and shot-stopping abilities have led Ghana coach Otto Addo to endorse him as the country’s new first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of established names like Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.

Joining Hearts of Oak from Great Olympics in 2024, Asare has quickly become a vital asset for the Accra-based club. His consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League, coupled with his impressive international outings, have established him as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the West African region.

As Hearts of Oak continue their pursuit of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title, battling closely with Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars, Asare’s continued presence in goal will be crucial to their ambitions.
