Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Mampong, Ashanti Region, have vandalized party property in protest against the nomination of Esther Dwomoh as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Earlier today, April 10, the youth held a press conference warning party executives and President John Mahama that 80% of the youth who worked tirelessly to secure electoral victory in the area are Muslims. They demanded that their efforts be acknowledged by appointing a Muslim as MCE.

According to them, a shortlist of three candidates was submitted to the President, and they vowed to reject any nominee outside that list.

Despite their demands, President Mahama has nominated Esther Dwomoh for the MCE position. The decision sparked outrage among the youth, who felt their concerns were disregarded.

In response, the aggrieved youth stormed the NDC constituency office, destroying chairs, tables, and other valuable party assets in a show of defiance.

Some of the protesters blamed Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and regional party executives for influencing the President’s decision. They issued a strong warning to the government that unless the nomination of Esther Dwomoh is revoked and replaced with a Muslim nominee, they will not accept any appointee imposed on them.
