Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has announced plans to use CCTV surveillance to curb illegal waste disposal in Kumasi’s central business district.

This initiative, according to Dr. Amoakohene aims to identify and penalize individuals caught dumping refuse at unapproved locations.

Speaking during a region-wide clean-up exercise, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment, warning that captured offenders will face strict consequences.

“One key observation is that people are fond of dumping refuse at unapproved sites. We have redirected some of our cameras from signals department to capture images and footages from these areas and we are sending a warning out there that anyone caught or found on any of the tapes dumping refuse at any unapproved sites is dealth with”.

Beyond sanitation efforts, the Minister outlined strategies to mitigate perennial flooding, including discussions with the Works and Housing Minister on supporting drainage system improvements.

Dr. Amoakohene further revealed that, plastic waste management policies are also expected to be introduced to reduce pollution.
