Some discontented members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Talensi Constituency have rejected the nomination of John Millim Naabwomya as District Chief Executive (DCE).
The group raised concern over his alleged close affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that his appointment could jeopardize the NDC’s electoral prospects in the 2028 polls.
Naabwomya’s nomination, announced on Friday, April 11, was swiftly followed by a suspected arson attack on the NDC constituency office an incident believed to be linked to the growing tensions.
Addressing the media at a press conference in Tongo, spokesperson for the aggrieved members, Charles King Luu, urged President John Mahama to revoke the nomination, citing threats to party unity and waning grassroots support.
“There will be chaos if John Millim Naabwomya is nominated as DCE. We demand that President Mahama conducts a further background check on this nominee. He should demand a copy of the report, which we believe was hidden from him before his nomination. In doing so, we not only save the image of the NDC but also highlight the peace and security of Talensi, as highlighted in the report by the National Intelligence Bureau,” he stated.
