The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has visited the Abosso Gold Fields Damang Mines in the Western Region to reassure workers and management of job security following the government’s decision to assume control of the mine.

The takeover comes after Gold Fields failed to meet lease renewal conditions, prompting the government to step in to ensure continued operations and prevent job losses.

Speaking alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission, Armah- Kofi Buah assured mine employees that no dismissals would occur during the transition.

“We came to engage the workers of the Damang Mine to assure them of President Mahama’s commitment to ensure that even in this transitional period, their jobs will be guaranteed”.

Assuring them, Armah Kofi Buah said, “We are going to work with them to ensure the safety and sanctity of operations here.”

The Minister also emphasized the importance of supporting contractors and subcontractors, assuring them that existing contracts would remain intact despite the transition.

“Contractors and subcontractors who work here must be assured that this transition will not affect their commitments and contracts that they have here. The intention ultimately is to empower the communities here and to make sure that there is continuity in operations.”
