President John Dramani Mahama has urged African countries to strategically position themselves to benefit from the shifting tides of the global economy.

Addressing participants at the Kwahu Business Forum on Saturday, April 19, Mahama emphasized the need for the continent to transition from its traditional trade-focused approach to one that embraces industrialization, value addition, and entrepreneurial innovation.

He pointed to the current trade tensions among global economic giants as a turning point that could realign global production networks an opening Africa must seize.

Drawing lessons from history, Mahama noted Africa’s repeated exclusion from major global transitions from the Cold War to the globalisation boom. Yet, he expressed confidence in Africa’s ability to capitalize on today’s geopolitical changes if it takes decisive action.

He called for a continental mindset shift, urging investment in agribusiness, digital innovation, and commercial farming as pathways to sustainable economic growth.
