The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has reaffirmed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration left behind financial commitments totaling GHS105 billion in the road and infrastructure sector.

According to the Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Cherry, this figure reflects the cumulative value of road and infrastructure contracts awarded by the former government but left either incomplete or unexecuted.

In an interview on Sunday, April 20, Cherry recalled that during the vetting of the current Minister for Roads and Highways, an initial commitment of GHS100 billion was disclosed, with available funds estimated between GHS20 billion and GHS25 billion.

However, the release of the 2025 budget has since brought more clarity, confirming total outstanding liabilities at GHS105 billion.

Mr. Cherry further revealed that contractors have already executed projects worth GHS21 billion out of the total commitment.

He emphasized the urgent need for government to release the owed funds to ensure contractors remain financially stable and can return to site.
