President John Dramani Mahama has extended his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Pope Francis

In a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, Mr. Mahama joined the global community in mourning the death of the pontiff, who led the Roman Catholic Church with compassion and humility since 2013.

He described the news as a sad moment for the world and expressed his sympathies on behalf of his family and the people of Ghana.

He noted the profound loss felt by the Roman Catholic Church and all Catholic faithful in Ghana and beyond.

He recalled a memorable visit to the Vatican with his wife, Lordina Mahama, where they had the distinct honour of meeting Pope Francis.

Reflecting on the Pope’s legacy, Mahama praised his deep commitment to social justice and his unwavering advocacy for the poor and marginalized.

He acknowledged the pontiff’s leadership as one that would continue to inspire generations.

Pope Francis passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Monday morning, according to a statement from the Vatican.

His health had been in decline in recent months, following treatment for pneumonia and other complications that required continuous medical care.

Despite the efforts of his doctors and a brief public appearance in March at Gemelli Hospital, his condition remained complex.
