The former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Opuni, has highlighted the significant achievements in Ghana’s cocoa sector during the first term of former President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, that era witnessed substantial progress and stability in cocoa production and governance.
Dr. Opuni expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the cocoa sector.
He said the gains made under President Mahama’s leadership had been eroded by what he described as mismanagement under the subsequent administration.
He also lamented the personal and professional challenges he faced, including what he termed a calculated effort to frustrate and persecute him.
He noted that for eight years, he endured severe trials, which he believes were politically motivated, but he found solace and strength in prayer and divine intervention.
The former COCOBOD boss stated that the current situation of the institution is a stark contrast to what it used to be during his tenure.
He believes the youth who were empowered under his leadership are no longer experiencing the same opportunities.
Despite the setbacks, he remains hopeful, attributing his resilience to faith and a clear conscience.
Dr. Opuni called on all to focus on progress and unity as the country moves forward.
