The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has renewed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in Bawku, following a recent surge in violence that has claimed lives and disrupted security in the municipality and surrounding areas.

During a working visit to the region, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, strongly condemned the attacks that have recently intensified, including those targeting security personnel.

He described the acts as cowardly and assured that the military would respond with full force to those behind the unrest.

The renewed conflict, which has led to a series of indiscriminate killings and heightened insecurity, has prompted a coordinated response by GAF and other security agencies.

As part of the intensified efforts, operations have been scaled up, including the enforcement of the curfew, routine and special patrols, and the protection of strategic installations.

These actions have resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition.

Despite the deep-rooted and complex nature of the conflict, the military maintains that violence is not a solution.

Engagements with community leaders continue as part of a broader strategy to foster dialogue, reconciliation, and mutual respect principles seen as essential for long-term peace.

Major General Gbetanu assured the people of Bawku and the nation at large of the Armed Forces’ dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

He issued a strong caution to those inciting violence, stating that any attack on civilians or military personnel would be considered an act of extremism and met with deliberate and decisive action.

He emphasized that there would be no safe haven for those who choose violence, and that all perpetrators would be pursued and brought to justice.

GAF urged the youth in the area to lay down their arms and embrace peace, highlighting that the future lies in building, learning, and national development not in conflict and bloodshed.

Major General Gbetanu also commended the security personnel serving under harsh conditions in Bawku, assuring them of continuous logistical support to enhance their peacekeeping efforts.
