At just 16 years old, Gilbert Ampiah is already making waves on the international stage. The talented para-athlete from St. Augustine’s College captured a bronze medal in the High Jump T44 category at the prestigious Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

With a remarkable jump of 1.73 meters, Gilbert not only secured his first international medal but also took a huge step forward in a journey marked by grit, resilience, and an unshakable belief in himself.

His path to the podium has been anything but ordinary. Last year, Gilbert cleared 1.60 meters at Ekumfi Atwa, stunning many as he triumphed over able-bodied competitors. Since then, he has continued to push his limits, soaring to 1.82 meters during St. Augustine’s inter-house sports competition and recently achieving a new personal best of 1.86 meters at a competitive meet.

Gilbert’s dream took another big leap when he underwent his official para-athletics classification from April 21–23, making him eligible to compete formally on the world stage.

Driven by sheer passion and an unbreakable spirit, Gilbert has quickly become a symbol of hope and inspiration, not just for the para-sports community but for the entire nation. His success in Marrakech is more than just a medal—it’s a promise of even greater things to come.

The competition also served as a qualifier for the upcoming Commonwealth and Paralympic Games, offering Gilbert an even bigger platform to showcase his extraordinary talent to the world.

Ghanaian hearts are swelling with pride—and thanks to young stars like Gilbert Ampiah, the future of para-athletics in the country looks brighter than ever.
