Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George has shared thoughts on the impact monies lost to betting can make in Ghana’s agricultural sector.

The Minister in a video making waves online, explained that the huge sums of money that have been lost to betting , staked under the basis of probability which implied the low assurance of making money from that venture. “You stake a bet that Arsenal will beat PSG three – zero because they beat them six months ago, you stake the bet and they lose one – zero; Partey has no idea you invested in him, Rudiger does not know you from Adam,”

George noted that despite the countless gains that have been made from sports betting, money invested into the said venture can be invested into agriculture and serve as a means of survival for entire families.

“Meanwhile you could have placed that bet in growth of a farm and could have affected the lives of a woman or a man and his kids and wife and children and there is hope you will get your money back.” he said.

The Minister however revealed that many individuals fail to see the long lasting impact of Ghana’s agricultural sector on account of an appeal gap which he assured will be taken into due consideration with the requisite bodies and individuals to rake in more Ghanaians to invest into it. “It’s important that we figure a way around tapping into that market and getting them to appreciate that our food security is national security.”
