Protesters participating in the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration have called on President John Dramani Mahama to uphold his promises, specifically his pledge to deliver within 120 days and implement a 24-hour economy and to refrain from actions that undermine the independence of the judiciary.

Speaking during the protest on Monday, May 5, Emmanuel Yamoah, one of the demonstrators, expressed disappointment, stating that Ghanaians elected President Mahama to drive national development not to interfere with the operations of the judiciary.

Mr. Yamoah noted that citizens expected to see progress on key campaign promises such as the resetting agenda, the 24-hour economy, and job creation. Instead, he lamented, the administration appears to be dismissing workers and creating instability within state institutions.

Protesters are urging the President to focus on fulfilling his development agenda and to reinstate Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo in the interest of preserving the integrity and success of the judiciary.
