The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate and take disciplinary action against a police officer, Constable Forson, for allegedly assaulting him during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Parliament House.

In a letter dated May 5, 2025, and addressed to the IGP at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters, Afenyo-Markin described the officer as “a tall, fair, and heavily built” individual stationed at the Parliament entrance.

According to the Minority Leader, the incident occurred while he was attempting to access the premises during the protest aimed at drawing attention to concerns over judicial independence.

“Constable Forson assaulted me at the entrance of Parliament House during the demonstration,” the letter stated.

To counter what he describes as “misleading narratives” in the public domain, Afenyo-Markin said he has issued a public statement detailing the events, which he also submitted as supporting evidence in his petition to the police.

The petition calls on the police leadership to take appropriate disciplinary action against the officer involved.
