Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has issued a warning to appointees who breach the code of conduct.

According to Dr. Ayine, appointees who breach the code will not only be dismissed but may face criminal prosecution if their actions warrant it.

Dr Ayine emphasized that the President has set clear expectations for ethical governance, stating, “If you breach the Code, you get disciplined. If criminal conduct flows from your actions, the Attorney-General will ensure that the courts impose the necessary criminal sanctions.”

The Attorney-General also criticized selective prosecution practices, questioning why past government officials are held accountable while current appointees evade scrutiny.

“It doesn’t make sense that past appointees will be prosecuted, and present appointees will go scot-free. That means you are just deferring their prosecution, and it doesn’t make sense”.

The Code of Conduct, launched by President Mahama, sets guidelines on conflict of interest, financial disclosures, and responsible use of public resources.

The Code of Conduct aims to ensure transparency and discipline among political appointees.

Dr Ayine urged government officials to abide by these standards, saying, “The straight and narrow path defined by the President must be the one we all walk.”
