The Third Force Alliance Ghana, a coalition of minority political parties, has thrown its support behind the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, describing the decision as lawful and constitutionally grounded.

Comprising the Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), and All People’s Congress (APC), the Alliance dismissed claims that President John Dramani Mahama’s action was politically motivated. The group affirmed that the president acted within the bounds of the 1992 Constitution.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday May 6, General Secretary of the GCPP, Citizen Ato Dadzie, emphasized that the suspension underscores the principle of accountability within the judiciary, and no official should be above scrutiny hence this move reflects a commitment to upholding ethical standards in our justice system.

The Alliance also condemned the “Save the Judiciary” protest organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), labeling it as misguided and indicative of what they described as the NPP’s waning credibility.

The coalition called for broader institutional reforms, including a constitutional amendment to Article 146, which governs the processes for disciplining judicial officers.
