Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto has shared plans of an ongoing mission of the authority to secure partners to facilitate green energy as an alternate power source for all hotels in Ghana.

Madam Houadjeto while addressing stakeholders at the launch of the newly established Public Private Partnership office in Accra today, noted that the change will positively impact Ghana’s tourism sector given the high rates hotels in Ghana presently operate by.

According to the GTA boss, hotel rates in Ghana are a key determinant of tourist turnout in Ghana which is witnessing ardent competition as a globally preferred tourism destination. “Our reason is that for us to compete in the African market in particular like Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda and all those countries, it is important that are hotel rates are low. Currently, are hotel rates are very expensive comparable to other tourist destinations.” she asserted.

She revealed that the leadership of the GTA are looking out for partners who can facilitate this switch to an alternate power supply, which in hand will immensely reduce the sums of money being pumped into power supply to these hotels – consequently contributing to rate surges. “We believe that if we Ghana Tourism Authority, support you with the facility or help you negotiate a facility so that you can install solar power in your various hotels and eateries it will really help in the costing of things and the rates.”
