The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Samuel Danquah Amaning, has refuted claims that the government’s “No Fees Stress” initiative for Level 100 students in public universities is a loan to be repaid in the future.

In an interview with Nana Antwi Boasiako, on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Kaseɛbɔ, Mr. Amaning emphasized that the initiative is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on students in public universities, technical universities, nursing training colleges, and colleges of education. As part of the initiative, the government will reimburse the academic user fees paid by Level 100 students of Public Universities.

He explained that the government is fully prepared to refund these fees, and for transparency and accountability, students are required to log in to the No Fees Stress portal, https://nofeesstress.sltf.gov.gh. Upon registration, a bank account will be automatically created for each student, which will be used to process the refund.

Mr. Amaning firmly clarified that this initiative is a grant, not a loan, and dismissed any circulating rumors suggesting that students will be required to repay the funds in the future.

“This is not a loan, this is a grant from the government, which students will not have to pay back. We create accounts for them through the portal solely for the purpose of transferring the refund. This should not be mistaken for a loan,” he said.

He encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of the initiative, stressing the importance of easing their financial stress.

Mr. Amaning further urged students not to miss out on this opportunity, emphasizing that it is open to all Level 100 students in public tertiary institutions who have paid their fees.

“I urge all Level 100 students to apply. This is a thoughtful initiative by President John Dramani Mahama to relieve students of financial pressure,” he added.
