Law enforcement in the Ashanti region has made significant strides in combating armed robbery, with the arrest of multiple suspects in recent incidents.

On May 8, 2025, three individuals namely Umar Issah, Sherif Mohammed, and Abdul Jalelu, aged between 19 and 26 allegedly carried out a violent robbery in Kenyasi, where they attacked two residents at gunpoint.

The perpetrators, riding separate motorbikes, seized their victims’ mobile phones before attempting to flee.

Prompt action by the Kenyasi police patrol team led to their swift arrest.

During the operation, suspect Sherif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound, while the others suffered injuries. They are currently receiving medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under a strict police guard. Authorities have recovered the stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the crime.

In a separate operation, the police arrested 32-year-old Michael Owusu Ansah, known as “Baby Last,” who has been on their wanted list since 2016 for his alleged involvement in a robbery and the murder of police officer Frank Essel of the SWAT unit. His crimes, linked to an attack at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso, have long been under investigation.

During questioning, Ansah admitted to participating in numerous street and residential robberies in areas such as Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah, revealing details about his gang’s use of knives, pistols, and pump-action guns.

This led authorities to arrest four of his accomplices, Emmanuel Owusu (alias Cassidy), Maxwell Gyimah (alias Nana Kwame), Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah (alias The Man Sudais), and Rhano Okyere (alias Demon) from their hideouts in Atwima-Techiman and Denchemuoso.

One suspect, identified only as Abedi, remains at large, and police efforts are ongoing to locate him and recover weapons used in the crimes.

All five apprehended individuals have been charged and were presented before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13, 2025. They have been remanded into police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on June 4, 2025.

Authorities continue their crackdown on armed robbery in the region, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
