In a bold step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in Ghana’s procurement system, the Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), charging its members with the critical task of reforming public procurement practices to ensure value for money.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Ato Forson highlighted the urgent need for change, citing billions of cedis lost to excessive contract costs.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Ato Forson mentioned the reason for the amendment of the Public Procurement Act.

He stated that, the amended Public Procurement Act seeks to close loopholes, tighten compliance, and enhance oversight in procurement processes.

“Sole sourcing must be the exception, not the norm,” he emphasized, urging the new board to prioritize competitive tendering and reject inappropriate contracts.

He announced that a dedicated office for Value for Money is set to be launched in the coming weeks to further strengthen accountability in public expenditure.

The newly appointed Governing Board members are:

1. Mr. Basil Ahiable – Chairman

2. Dr. Justice Srem-Sai – Member

3. Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh Quarshie, MP– Member

4. Mr. Isaac Faikue– Member

5. Mr. Frank Agyare– Member

6. Hon. Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini – Member

7. Dr. Ahmed Zakaria Abdulai- Member

8. Hajia Fatima Adamu– Member

9. Mr. Frank Mantey– Member
