Former Anyaa Sowutuom MP Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi has condemned the temporary closure of Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C., describing it as “inconsiderate” and poorly timed.

The shutdown, announced on May 26, 2025, follows a special audit that uncovered fraudulent activities, prompting Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to initiate a restructuring process.

Dr. Adomako Kissi argues that the decision disrupts summer travel for Ghanaians abroad and suggests cybersecurity reforms instead of a complete shutdown.

“There are many Ghanaians who are Americans by virtue of changing their citizenship who would want to come to Ghana this summer. So, I think the minister was inconsiderate administratively in taking this decision.I would have hoped that with some expertise in cybersecurity and internet banking, this could have been redirected at the backend without closing down the embassy”.
