Former Attorney General and lawyer for Getrude Torkornoo, Godfred Dame has firmly denounced the ongoing removal proceedings against suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, insisting it lacks due process and constitutional integrity.

Standing outside the Supreme Court in Accra after yet another legal setback for his client, Dame reinforced his position that judicial principles must be upheld.

On Wednesday, May 28, the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed the Chief Justice’s injunction application against the five-member committee investigating petitions for her removal, further rejecting her supplementary affidavit earlier in the day.

Despite mounting calls for her resignation, Dame remains steadfast, asserting that stepping down is not an option.

“Due process, rule of law, and constitutionalism must prevail in Ghana. That is what we seek. It is not on the account of people putting pressure on CJ to resign. The most important thing is that there must be an upholding of the rule of law in Ghana.

And we continue to assert our rights. The proper thing must be done. As far as I’m concerned, the correct thing must be done. She knows what is due process. She knows what is constitutional rights, and I think that’s what she’s asking for,” he added.
