The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has criticized the Members of Parliament (MPs) for their protest at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, June 4, over delayed Ablekuma North election results, calling the action both unnecessary and misdirected.

In a media interaction on Thursday, June 5, Vanderpuye described the demonstration as a publicity stunt designed to attract media coverage rather than a sincere democratic effort to address a constitutional matter.

He stressed that Minority MPs are well aware that the Electoral Commission (EC), not the police is the constitutionally mandated authority to declare election results.

Vanderpuye argued that by choosing to demonstrate at the Police Headquarters instead of engaging the EC or pursuing appropriate legal remedies, the MPs appeared more interested in staging a public spectacle to garner sympathy than in resolving the issue constructively.

He questioned why the MPs decided to petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) rather than addressing their grievances directly to the EC, the legitimate body responsible for declaring election outcomes.
