High Court grants injunction against GRNMA’s strike

The Industrial and Labour Division 2 of the High Court in Accra has approved an interlocutory injunction against the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), further complicating the ongoing dispute between the union and the government.

The ruling follows a motion by the National Labour Commission (NLC), which had struggled to directly serve the injunction order on GRNMA leadership.

Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori, presiding over the case, allowed for substituted service, meaning that the injunction notice will be posted on the High Court’s notice board, affixed at the entrance of the GRNMA office and delivered via WhatsApp to GRNMA President Perpetual Ofori Ampofo and General Secretary David Tenkorang-Twum.

The legal order takes effect 14 days after posting, officially notifying GRNMA of its restrictions.

This development comes at a crucial moment, as the nurses’ strike has already caused severe service disruptions in public hospitals, with patients left stranded and emergency cases redirected due to staff shortages.

Government officials insist that they remain committed to resolving the crisis, but GRNMA leaders argue that their demands have not been properly assessed.
