Head of Media Relations at the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IP-GH), Elolo Alfred Konglo has commended government for its efforts in alleviating high priced data bundle burdens on Ghanaians in this heavily internet reliant age.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Minister of Communications , Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, announced an increase in data bundles offered by mobile network operators in Ghana – being MTN, Telecel and AT effectively July 1, 2025. “The measures are “Airtel Tigo Ghana – 10% increase on all data offerings, Telecel – 10% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network, MTN – 15% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network.” The Minister announced in an engagement with the press at the Ministry of Communication Main Auditorium.

The IT expert speaking in an interview on Happy Morning Show with Sefah-Danquah noted that the internet has become a major aspect of commerce, service and even jobs in Ghana today, thus the need for accessible and affordable data bundles to be efficient and up to date. “Over the years, you could see that the penetration of internet connectivity or internet usage has increased. A lot more people are relying on internet to do their work, a lot more people are relying on internet to sell their products, a lot of the youth are making earnings on the internet. But the current pricing of data bundles is exorbitant that not everyone is able to afford to even sustain their small small businesses they are doing online.” he noted.

He ascribed the bundle adjustments to the significant gains the Ghana cedi has made over the past few weeks. However, he noted that these new adjustments are also filled with many deals and agreements between the MNOs and their respective service providers abroad. “The cedi has appreciated significantly over the past 30 days against the dollar which is a big relief for the telco services and therefore we the customers must also enjoy that relief.” Mr. Konglo noted.
