Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation GIISDEC, Philip Oppong Amponsah has revealed President Mahama and the NDC government’s intention to regularize the scrap business which according to him has a potential significant contribution to the Ghanaian economy.

He said that, the government intends to introduce, legislative instrument (L.I), technology, financial support, and other interventions for scrap dealers to make their businesses grow vibrant.

Mr. Oppong Amponsah made this known as part of GIISDEC’s nationwide tour to meet scrap dealers and other stakeholders to communicate to them the government’s plans and also seek their opinions to help formulate policies and regulations to improve their businesses.

He stated that the government considers the scrap business as one with potential to flourish like cocoa, oil, and gas, with the right attention and investment, therefore committed to harnessing the potentials of the scrap business to create job opportunities, adequately feed the iron industry, and improve the economy.

The National Secretary of the scrap dealers Association, Nasiru Mohammed in a welcome address thanked the government led by President Mahama for thinking and considering scrap dealers in his resetting agenda.

He on behalf of the association declared their support and also outlined their challenges.
