Former Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo and current National Coordinator of the District Roads Improvement Programme, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has offered a word of caution to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum regarding his newly declared presidential ambitions.

Speaking in response to Dr. Adutwum’s announcement on Wednesday, June 18, to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Vanderpuye acknowledged the former Education Minister’s calm demeanor but warned against anchoring his entire campaign on his tenure at the Ministry of Education.

“It is good that Adutwum wants to contest… but I don’t want him to premise his qualification on his performance at the Ministry of Education,” Vanderpuye said.”

While commending some of the reforms under Dr. Adutwum’s leadership—particularly efforts to expand STEM education—Vanderpuye described his overall performance as “50-50”, noting that the ministry faced inconsistencies and criticisms during his time in office.

He urged Dr. Adutwum to adopt a posture of humility and to present himself as a servant-leader.

“He should go out there as Adutwum, a servant of this country. ‘I have served. I may not have achieved a perfect score, but I have served in humility and respect.’
Then people will assess him on that basis,” Vanderpuye advised.

Dr. Adutwum’s entry into the race adds to the growing list of NPP members vying to lead the party in the 2028 general elections.
