The Chairman of the Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Peter Martey Agbeko, has assured stakeholders of the committee’s unwavering commitment to a fair and transparent electoral process ahead of the Association’s national and regional elections.

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 24, Mr. Agbeko affirmed that the committee, working closely with a technical advisor from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, is implementing best practices to ensure a credible and smooth election.

“With the support of my dedicated committee members and under the expert guidance of our Electoral Commission advisor, we are committed to conducting a transparent, professional, and credible election,” he stated.

He expressed concern over attempts by some individuals to cast doubt on the process, emphasizing the need for evidence-based criticism. “Unfounded allegations only serve to erode trust. While we welcome constructive feedback, it must be rooted in verifiable facts,” Mr. Agbeko noted.

Addressing the controversy around proxy voting, he reaffirmed its legitimacy within democratic systems and highlighted that stringent safeguards are in place to prevent its abuse.

Recalling a previous electoral challenge, he emphasized the committee’s resilience and commitment. “Despite the sudden challenge, we conducted the election successfully. It speaks to our dedication,” he said.

Mr. Agbeko further confirmed he would remain at the helm throughout the process, vowing to see the elections through with integrity and professionalism. “I’m not going anywhere. I will see this through to the glory of God and in service to our Association.”

To foster transparency and unity, the committee will host a stakeholder engagement later today, bringing together all candidates, the Elections Committee, and the Electoral Commission’s technical advisor.
