The Ghana Police Service in the Western Region has rescued a 12-year-old boy who was brutally assaulted in a viral video that sparked widespread outrage on social media.

The disturbing footage showed the young boy tied with a nylon rope and suspended from the roof of a building while being severely beaten by two men.

The incident reportedly occurred at New Ankasa, a community near Elubo in the Western Region. According to the police, the assault was allegedly in response to claims that the boy had stolen GHS 200.

In a press release issued and signed by Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Western Region Police Command, the Police named the two suspects as 58-year-old Issah Morro and 27-year-old Suleman Abdul Rashid. Both individuals were identified in the video and have since been arrested.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, authorities say the victim has received medical treatment and has been safely handed over to his father.

The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and security. It further urged citizens to report any suspicious or harmful behavior to the nearest police station for prompt action.
