The University of Ghana has been hit by a renewed wave of COVID-19 infections, prompting immediate action from the university’s Health Services Directorate.

In a public health alert issued on June 23, 2025, the Directorate confirmed a number of suspected and confirmed cases in and around the Legon campus.

In response, the university community has been urged to recommit to preventive health measures. These include mandatory mask-wearing in enclosed or crowded areas, regular hand washing or use of alcohol-based sanitizers, maintaining a safe distance of at least one metre, limiting attendance at large gatherings, ensuring proper ventilation in indoor settings, and seeking medical help promptly if experiencing flu-like symptoms.

As part of the renewed response, the Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 protocols, such as screening, triage systems at campus health centers, and continuous monitoring of reported cases. The university assured students, staff, and visitors that updated information will be shared regularly.

“We must work together to protect ourselves and our community,” the statement emphasized.

Community members are encouraged to report symptoms and seek assistance by contacting the Directorate via: phughospital@ug.edu.gh
