Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has appealed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to ensure that the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are released as soon as possible in order to decrease student and public anxiety.
He made this call on Thursday, June 26, during the West African Examination Council Distinction Awards Ceremony where he commended WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their efforts in successfully conducting the examinations.
“Let me commend you for a very successful BECE examination. What we expect from you now is the early, timely release of the results so that anxiety and anxiousness in the students will go down,” he said.
Haruna Iddrisu also disclosed the government’s intention to introduce a new legislative framework to guide the awarding of scholarships in the country.
“Within a few weeks to come, I will introduce the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he promised Ghanaians to deal with the issue of nepotism that was associated with the award of scholarships,” he announced.
He further called on the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to support the bill when it is laid before the House.
