CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, has outtlined Ghana’s ambitious vision to lead West Africa’s tourism future. Representing the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts at the West African Travel Expo held at Accra City Hotel on June 27, 2025, Houadjeto unveiled initiatives to transform Ghana’s tourism landscape by emphasizing cultural heritage, innovation, and regional collaboration.

Houadjeto emphasized the Authority’s efforts to reclaim and promote Ghana’s unique narrative, one grounded in resilience, creativity, and strong ties to the African diaspora. Key initiatives like the Year of Return and the Black Star Experience are central to this vision, aiming to position Ghana as a cultural and experiential hub.

The country is also embracing digital transformation. By leveraging smart tourism tools, virtual tours, digital marketing, and data analytics, Ghana is enhancing the visitor experience and redefining how its attractions are showcased globally.

On a regional level, Houadjeto advocated for increased mobility and unity across West Africa. She called for relaxed visa policies, expanded cross-border travel, and harmonized tourism strategies to drive collective growth. Tourism advocates are encouraging Ghana to lead through strategic partnerships, co-hosted festivals, and regional travel packages to enhance connectivity and visibility.

With stronger collaboration and improved infrastructure, Ghana is poised to become the cornerstone of a vibrant, unified West African tourism market.
