An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced self-styled evangelist and former fetish priestess Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to 15 years in prison for defrauding members of the public through a widely publicized “money doubling” scam.
Agradaa was convicted on multiple counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, stemming from a televised broadcast in 2022 where she claimed to possess spiritual powers that could multiply money.
The broadcast attracted scores of victims who handed over substantial sums of cash in hopes of receiving double the amount in return. According to court documents, no such promises were fulfilled.
The court described her conduct as “deliberate and deceitful,” targeting vulnerable individuals under the guise of religious and spiritual authority.
Ahead of sentencing, Agradaa was subjected to a mandatory pregnancy test, which returned negative, clearing the way for her incarceration as required under Ghanaian law.
Her imprisonment is being seen as a significant moment in Ghana’s ongoing battle against fraudulent spiritual practices and religious scams.
