The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC), signaling renewed efforts to strengthen Ghana’s defence manufacturing capacity and advance national industrialisation.

The inauguration followed the 44th Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Jubilee House and a strategic engagement with President John Dramani Mahama on the ongoing fight against illegal mining.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Dr. Omane Boamah described the appointment of the new Board as a “milestone moment” that sets the stage for a new chapter in the country’s defence and economic development.

“Our vision for DIHOC is clear: to make Ghana a hub for defense manufacturing, innovation, and strategic partnerships. We will achieve this through the establishment of a Defence Industrial Complex (DIC), which will create decent and well-paying jobs and boost our economy,” he stated.

Dr. Boamah noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda of building a 24-hour economy, where businesses operate around the clock to increase productivity and expand employment opportunities.

The newly inaugurated Governing Board is chaired by Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, and includes the following members:

Emmanuel A. Kartey, Chief Director, Ministry of Defence

Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff

Brig. Gen. Kwaku Dankwa Hagan

Brig. Gen. Charles Gbekle (Esq.)

Kojo Gyeke Darko

Vida Addae

Emmanuel Drah (MP)

Col. John Asabre (Rtd)

Dr. Boamah pledged the full support of government towards the Board’s efforts, expressing optimism about DIHOC’s potential to contribute significantly to Ghana’s national security, industrial advancement, and job creation drive.
