At least four passengers are in critical condition and 15 others have sustained varying degrees of injury after two Sprinter Benz buses collided early Tuesday morning at Awutu Bonsuoku, in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The victims were rushed to three different medical facilities:

Four critically injured are receiving emergency care at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Thirteen others are being treated at Hope Christian Hospital in Gomoa Fetteh.

Two additional victims are receiving care at the Senya Bereku Polyclinic.

The accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on the Gomoa Ojobi–Senya Bereku Road and involved two commercial Sprinter Benz buses with registration numbers AC-804-16 and GR-5137-18.

Eyewitness Account

Kennedy Awuah, a resident and eyewitness, told reporters that he and others were awakened by a loud crash and rushed to the scene, where they found the two vehicles wrecked and passengers severely injured.

“The impact was very strong. It looked like one of the drivers was sleeping behind the wheel,” he said.

Victim’s Testimony

One of the victims, Ebenezer Eshun, who is receiving treatment at Hope Christian Hospital, confirmed that the driver of the bus traveling from Kasoa to Senya Bereku appeared to have dozed off, which may have led to the collision.

The Senya Bereku District Police Commander, DSP Kingsley Asante, confirmed the incident and attributed the crash to driver fatigue and poor weather conditions at the time.

He emphasized that the situation is being investigated and urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially during early morning hours when fatigue and low visibility can heighten risks.
