The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has projected that fuel prices at the pump will rise between 6% and 9% during the second pricing window of July 2025.

According to COPEC’s market analysis, the average retail price of petroleum products is expected to increase by approximately 8% when the new pricing window takes effect on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Expected Price Changes:
1. Petrol prices are forecast to increase by 6.47%, rising from the current average of GHS11.59 per litre.
2. Diesel is expected to experience the sharpest hike of 9.30%, up from the current average of GHS12.97 per litre.
3. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), on the other hand, is projected to record a marginal decline of 0.45% per kilogram.

In a statement released, COPEC attributed the projected adjustments to prevailing market dynamics, assuming there are no significant fluctuations in global Free-On-Board (FOB) petroleum prices or the Ghana cedi’s exchange rate in the immediate term.

The projections come despite a 4.89% fall in crude oil prices from $74.43 to $70.79 per barrel and a 0.47% depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, from GHS10.5288 to GHS10.5785 per US dollar.

COPEC indicated that the primary driver behind the anticipated price hikes is the implementation of a GHS1 Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy, recently introduced by the Ministry of Energy.

The Chamber further cautioned that the actual prices at the pump may vary by ±5%, depending on real-time market conditions.

The revised fuel prices are scheduled to take effect starting today, Wednesday, July 16, 2025
