The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced the government’s plan to deepen local participation in Ghana’s renewable energy sector.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency on Wednesday, July 16, Mr. Jinapor stated that, as part of efforts to enhance local content in the renewable energy space, the government has partnered with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to train Ghanaians in solar energy technology.

He noted that this initiative is expected to create significant job opportunities for the country’s youth..

“As part of efforts to increase local content and local participation in the renewable energy sector, we’re going into partnership with the International Solar Alliance to train Ghanaians in Solar Energy Technologies which will certainly create a lot of jobs,” he said.

He further revealed that Ghana will host the 7th Africa Regional Committee meeting of the International Solar Alliance from September 2 to 4, 2025. He urged all Ghanaians, particularly stakeholders in the energy sector, to take advantage of the event, describing it as a valuable platform for growth and collaboration.

In a move to support the sector’s growth, Mr. Jinapor disclosed that the Ministry will soon present the Renewable Energy Authority Act to Parliament. The proposed legislation aims to streamline and accelerate progress in the renewable energy space.

The Minister also announced that to address the funding gap in the sector, the Ministry has established the Renewable Energy and Green Transition Fund, which will serve as a source for raising capital to support large-scale investments in renewable energy projects.

“We are working very hard to also ensure that we realize the Renewable Energy Authority Act to make significant progress, we will be going to Parliament approval. To address the funding gap and to make sure we achieve our objective, we’ve established the Renewable Energy and Green Transition Fund so that we can depend on that fund to raise capital to invest massively in the renewable energy,” he added.
