NPP needs divine purification, not delegates congress – Amenfi East MP Advises

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Amenfi East, Nicholas Amankwah, has urged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to suspend their upcoming Delegates Congress and instead redirect their efforts toward organizing a National Day of Prayer to purify the party.

In an interview, Mr. Amankwah claimed that the NPP had, over time, offended both the nation and its own members and therefore required divine intervention.

He pointed to what he described as the poor leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stating that the party remained silent despite the economic challenges under his administration.

He added that even former President John Agyekum Kufuor failed to speak out during those difficult times, which he said reflected badly on the party’s conscience.

The Amenfi East MP further argued that the internal structure of the NPP was weak, leading to the resignation of key figures such as Alan Kyerematen, Paul Afoko, and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong. According to him, the party leadership failed to acknowledge or apologize for how these individuals were treated, which, in his view, implied that they saw nothing wrong with their actions.

Given what he described as a leadership crisis within the NPP, Mr. Amankwah urged it would be more meaningful for the party to hold a National Day of Prayers for purification rather than focus resources on a Delegates Congress.
