Parliament Swears In Ewurabena Aubynn as Ablekuma North MP

Parliament has officially sworn in Ewurabena Aubynn as the new Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North, following her victory in the July 11 rerun. Her induction brings the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s representation in the House to 184 seats, further strengthening its parliamentary majority.

The swearing-in, which took place on Tuesday, July 22, was marked by controversy as Minority MPs staged a walkout moments before the oath was administered.

Their protest followed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s refusal to grant them the opportunity to make comments before the ceremony.

Speaker Bagbin explained that parliamentary practice permits such statements only after the official swearing-in. The decision drew sharp opposition from the Minority Caucus, led by Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who led his colleagues out of the chamber in protest.

Speaker Bagbin proceeded with the induction despite the Minority’s walkout, administering the oath of office to Ms Aubynn. In brief remarks, he welcomed the new MP and urged her to uphold the values of discipline, humility, and diligence.

He also reminded her of the significant responsibility she now carries in representing the people of Ablekuma North, adding that her actions in Parliament must reflect the trust placed in her by her constituents.
