North Tongu: Korsive Residents Appeal to Okudjeto Ablakwa as Pupils Study Under Trees

Residents of Korsive, a community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, are calling on their Member of Parliament and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, to intervene in the deteriorating state of the Korsive Primary School.

Currently, students in Classes 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 are forced to study under trees and makeshift palm sheds due to the lack of proper classroom infrastructure. This situation, residents say, is putting the children’s education and safety at serious risk.

Chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Oscar Gakpo, described the situation as alarming, revealing that snakes and other animals have occasionally fallen onto pupils, disrupting lessons and causing panic.

He is urging Mr. Ablakwa to prioritize the construction of proper classroom blocks and toilet facilities to replace the dilapidated infrastructure currently in place.

Edith Gakpe, speaking on behalf of parents, echoed the appeal, noting that the community has made some efforts to construct a basic school structure but lacks the resources to complete the project.

“We’re doing what we can, but we need serious support. We’re appealing to the MP and the government to come to our aid,” she said.

The residents hope that swift action will be taken to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for the pupils of Korsive Primary School.
