The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has dismissed reports of an Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) fuel shortage, assuring the public and airlines that adequate supplies are available for all aircraft operations.

In a statement released the ministry assured that, “there is currently no shortage of ATK fuel. Recent maintenance work on the ATK jetty pipeline was long overdue, and its completion has reinforced Ghana’s fuel security.”

The Ministry confirmed the arrival of an ATK vessel carrying 11,984 metric tons of fuel, with 4,583 MT already discharged to PWSL.

“The remaining fuel is currently being discharged to Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge Depots, with completion expected by midday Friday, July 25”.

The statement from the ministry further indicated that, deputy Minister Richard Gyan-Mensah has met with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Airport Company Limited, to ensure uninterrupted fuel distribution.

However, domestic airline, Passion Air has issued a cautionary advisory, citing a GCAA-issued NOTAM warning of Jet A-1 shortages at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) from July 23 to 27.

The airline stated; “The fuel shortage is beyond our control. We urge our passengers to stay updated through our customer service number.”

The shortage stems from supply disruptions within the Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI) system, with TotalEnergies and Shell suspending refuelling services indefinitely A B.

The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has advised airlines to make prior refuelling arrangements to minimize delays C.
