A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Nana Akuamoah Boateng, has stressed that lasting peace in Bawku can only be achieved if the two ethnic groups, Kusasi and Mamprusi are willing to embrace reconciliation and coexistence.

Speaking on Happy 98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah, Mr. Boateng expressed concern over the escalation of the conflict, warning that the violence is gradually spreading beyond the Bawku enclave.

He cited the recent killing of a Kusasi chief in the Ashanti Region as a troubling indication of the conflict’s growing reach.

He questioned how a peaceful nation like Ghana has allowed the Bawku conflict to persist for so long, saying, “How did we get here?”

Mr. Boateng also accused some political figures of exploiting the conflict for partisan gain. He referenced a comment made by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 campaign season, in which Mahama claimed there were no conflicts in Bawku under NDC rule. Boateng challenged this assertion and questioned why tensions have intensified in recent days.

He warned that unless politicians distance themselves from the conflict and refrain from politicizing it, all peace efforts would prove futile.

Mr. Boateng further appealed to the people of Bawku to embrace mediation efforts, such as the intervention initiated by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to restore peace and stability to the area.
