MultiChoice Ghana has expressed concern over recent comments made by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, regarding the pricing of DStv services in the country.

In a statement issued and signed by Alex Okyere, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana on Sunday, August 3, the company described the minister’s stance as “regrettable,” noting that it has been actively engaging with the minister and the National Communications Authority (NCA) in good faith to address concerns about subscription fees.

“In an effort to arrive at a resolution, we have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the National Communications Authority on an alternative further engagement avenue,” the statement read.

MultiChoice emphasized its longstanding presence in Ghana, stating it has operated in the country for over 30 years and values the livelihoods of its employees, agents, installers, retailers, and subscribers.

The pay-TV operator said it continues to work to maintain DStv subscription fees at the lowest possible levels despite the tough economic environment. However, it pushed back against calls to reduce the fees further, citing recent appreciation of the Cedi as insufficient justification for such a move.

“While we appreciate the recent appreciation of the Cedi (which we have never referred to as a ‘fluke’), it is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister,” the statement noted.

MultiChoice reiterated its commitment to constructive dialogue and full compliance with all applicable Ghanaian laws and regulations, expressing hope that the authorities would do the same.
