The Western North Regional Deputy Women Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Monica Baah, has commended President John Mahama for the recent increase in cocoa producer price.

The increase, which raises the price from GHS3,100 to GHS3,228.75 per 64-kilogram bag, is seen by some Ghanaians as a positive step towards improving farmer incomes.

She highlighted that factors such as cedi appreciation, fuel price reduction, and a reduction in inflation rate, among others, were considered in determining the price increment.

She noted that the President has taken steps to provide free fees for first-year tertiary students, allowing parents to redirect their saved funds to cater for other equally important expenses, and deserves commendation.

According to Madam Monica, the increase in the recent price of cocoa is indicative of President Mahama’s commitment to Ghana’s cocoa industry.

“The increase, effective August 7, 2025, aligns cocoa pricing with international market values and ensures fair compensation for farmers,” she expressed.

In an interview with Happy Kaseɛbɔ, Madam Monica highlighted the positive impact of the price adjustment on farmers’ livelihoods and the sustainability of the cocoa sector.

She added that critics of the price increase are often those who have purchased cocoa and were seeking higher prices.

In contrast, the NDC government, led by John Mahama, prioritizes the welfare of cocoa farmers and will deliver better conditions for them, Madam Monica indicated.

“The president has assured to reintroduce free fertilizers to cocoa farmers, and that’s a good news to farmers”, Madam Monica expressed.

She concluded that the government understands the needs of farmers and is committed to their well-being.
