President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Ghana following a tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and seven others.

In a message shared on his official Facebook page, President Bio described the incident as a “tragic helicopter crash in Ghana that has taken the lives of the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Environment, and the entire crew.”

“My heartfelt condolences go out to His Excellency President Mahama, and the people of Ghana during this incredibly difficult time,” the Sierra Leonean President wrote. “Please know that the people of Sierra Leone stand in solidarity with you as you mourn this profound loss. We are with you in your grief”, he wrote.

The ill-fated Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday. All eight people onboard perished, including Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; National Security official Muniru Mohammed Limuna; and three military officers.
