Ghana’s former Ambassador to China, Ambassador Edward Boateng, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of four government officials and military personnel on August 6, 2025.

In a heartfelt tribute, Ambassador Boateng mourned the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, among others.

The diplomat revealed that he once flew aboard the same helicopter with Squadron Leader Anala, a memory that made the news of the tragedy even more personal and painful.

“Their dedication and service will never be forgotten,” Ambassador Boateng stated.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families, to President John Dramani Mahama, to the Government, and to the entire nation.”

The accident has sent shockwaves across Ghana, sparking widespread grief for the fallen officials who died while serving their country.

In response, President Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast in honour of the deceased.

The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but investigations are ongoing.
