Ghanaian clubs Dreams FC and Medeama SC have made notable strides on the African football scene, securing places in the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) official 2025 Club Rankings.

The rankings, released this week, will shape seedings for next season’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws.

CAF’s ranking system evaluates club performance in continental competitions over the last five years.

Dreams FC achieved a historic milestone, climbing to 26th position with 12 points ,their first-ever appearance in the top 30.

This leap comes on the heels of their impressive run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals last season, where they became the first Ghanaian side in two decades to reach that stage.

Though they were eliminated by Egyptian giants Zamalek with a 3-0 aggregate loss, their goalless draw in Cairo during the first leg was a standout moment in their campaign.

Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC also earned a place in the rankings, landing in 51st position with four points.

Their qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage on debut secured them valuable ranking points, even though they didn’t advance beyond the group phase.
Dreams FC remain Ghana’s highest-ranked club and the only side within the top 50, underlining the significance of their continental breakthrough.

At the summit of the rankings, Egypt’s Al Ahly lead with 78 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa (62 points) and Tunisia’s Espérance (57 points). Morocco’s RS Berkane and Tanzania’s Simba SC complete the top five.

Noticeably absent from the 2025 list are Ghana’s traditional heavyweights, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, both of whom have a rich history in African competitions but failed to accumulate enough points over the review period.

These rankings will play a vital role in determining seeding and match-ups in CAF’s upcoming tournament draws, potentially giving higher-ranked clubs a more favourable path.
