The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The decision, taken at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, means a GFA president can now serve a maximum of three four-year terms, a total of 12 years in office.
Mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), the annual Congress convenes delegates from all 124 member bodies to assess progress, review financial and activity reports, and set the strategic direction for football in Ghana.
This year’s gathering focused heavily on governance reforms.
The amendment, which mirrors the statutes of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is aimed at fostering stability and continuity in leadership to support long-term development plans.
Endorsed by FIFA, the change could directly impact current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who is in his second term with two years left to serve.
